McDonald, Joyce - On Monday
afternoon Mom decided to attend a Currie Family Reunion. Barb has the
backgammon board all warmed up, Eleanor has a glass and is saying
you're all nuts. Bobo is sitting there with his pipe, beaming at his
girls and Mannie is trying to tell them to act like Proper ladies. Dad
came a little after five Tuesday morning and picked her up so that she
could be the guest of honor. Joyce McDonald (nee Currie) was the widow
of Lt. Col. James R. McDonald (deceased 1974) and predeceased by her
parents William "Bobo" and Ruth "Mannie" (Best)
Currie and her sisters Barbara Hurst and Eleanor Martin. She is
survived by her children Ruthann (Orleigh) Lutz, Calgary; Nancy
McDonald, Ottawa; Douglas McDonald (Joanne Hardwick), Summerside;
Tammy (Scott) Whitley, Moses Lake, Washington State; by
grandchildren Colin and Shell Ryan; Sean, Evan, Brendon, and
Caitlin Doyle; Liam, Erin, Keri, and Leah McDonald; Kenna and Jody
Whitley; two great-grandchildren Beau Ryan and Findley Sliepen; and by
numerous nieces and nephews. She was greatly loved by all and will be
very sorely missed. Mom and Dad had a wonderful marriage and when he
passed, it was a struggle for Mom to move on. She deeply missed her
best friend, soul mate and the greatest love of her life. Their
journey with the military was a grand adventure and they made many
dear friends along the way. In keeping with her charitable beliefs,
her remains have been donated to Dalhousie Medical Research. Resting
at the Moase Funeral Home, Summerside, where funeral service will be
held on Monday at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be at a later date in
Kingston, NS. Visiting hours Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of
the funeral service. She requested no floral donations be made.
Because Joyce loved all animals and fed many two and four footed
creatures over the years, she expressed her wish and appreciation that
any donations be directed to the P.E.I. Humane Society or the Prince
County Hospital Foundation.
