Smith – It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of George Hubert Smith, of Summerside, aged 78 years, at the Prince County Hospital, Summerside, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Central Bedeque, he was the son of the late Lorne and Mabel (Handrahan) Smith.

Beloved husband of Eileen (Sherry) Smith; and loving father of Darren, Mary (Steve) Fraser, Rudy (Lisa) and Wade (Brenda). Also lovingly remembered by his 11 grandchildren Brittany, Bethany, Rebecca and Regan Smith; Seth and Brock Lynch; Anna, Elizabeth and Charlotte Smith; Julia and Kaitlyn Smith.

Survived by his brothers Louis (Deina), Leo and Earle (Elaine); brothers and sisters-in-law Fr. Gerald Sherry, Norma Sherry, Wally (Gail) Sherry, Joan Mulligan, Betty (Don) Hickox and Doreen (Clare) Mulligan; and by several nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by his brothers-in-law Desi Sherry, Aden Sherry and Lowell Mulligan; and by his sisters-in-law Eva Sherry, Marilyn Smith and Rowena Smith.

George was always active and loved being outdoors. In his spare time, he enjoyed golfing, traveling with Eileen and spending time with his family.

George passed away due to ALS. Just like he dealt with all experiences in life, he managed his illness with strength and grace, and wanted to spend as much time with his loved ones as possible.

Resting at Moase Funeral Home, Summerside, until Wednesday, then to St. Paul’s Church, Summerside for funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. Visiting hours Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. Interment will take place later in St. Paul’s Cemetery. Memorial donations to the ALS Society of PEI or the East Prince Home Care Program would be appreciated.
