Arsenault – The death occurred peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, at the Summerset Manor, Summerside, on Thursday, November 9, 2023, of Monique Arsenault, of Summerside and formerly of Quebec, aged 83 years. Marie Josette "Monique" Gendron was born at home on in Mont Joli, Quebec and was raised in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region of Quebec. Daughter of the late Gérard Gendron and Hélena (nee Guimont) Gendron. Survived by her daughter, Anne (Richard) Harvey; grandchildren, Paul, Robert, and Michelle Harvey; brother, Pierre Gendron, and by a sister Marthe Gendron (Daniel Bombardier). Predeceased by her husband Louis Arsenault.

Mom’s education was received entirely in convents and taught by sisters. These impressionable years developed mom’s education in many academic disciplines as we know them and also artistic disciplines of the time such as sewing, knitting, embroidering, culinary education and spiritual studies. However, of all her interests, it was her passion towards her spirituality and faith constantly growing and flourishing throughout her life. Monique wanted to share her faith, convictions and spread what she believed to all who knew her. Monique had an incredible talent, acting as professional seamstress to perfection. She had sewn many of her own wardrobe outfits as a young single woman and spent a great deal of her homemaker years also sewing ensembles for her daughter Anne, in fact Anne’s high school ball graduation gown was a labor of love. This talent would prove useful into Monique’s maturing years where she would perform alterations for prominent madams in Summerside. Monique enjoyed the company of Pugs and has owned many over 48 years! In 1985 while living in Markham, Ontario Monique decided to live her dream of breeding Pugs, she continued doing so in Summerside and after 26 years her final litter was born in 2011. All the while entering dog shows winning several championships and she enjoyed that immensely. It was not unusual to see Monique surrounded by several pugs at a time. One September day 1962 Monique arrived in Charlottetown at Prince of Wales and resided Montgomery Hall, residence for girls where she was enrolled in a Commercial secretarial program where Monique would be introduced and learn English.

On November 1, 1962 Monique experienced and considered as the happiest part of her life when she met her Louis Arsenault from Summerside and the following year their marriage. Monique and her husband, Louis Arsenault (deceased), have committed to witness each other’s lives for 57 years. Monique’s first work experience began in her 18th summer within her father’s business in Riviere du Loup, Quebec. Once married, living in a Montreal suburb Monique was a dutiful mother and remained home 10 years to raise Anne. In July 1974 Monique began to work at St Bruno Medical Centre for doctors and two years later in 1976 she was offered yet another employment as bilingual receptionist/secretary and worked 7 years for a dental office. In 1982 after moving to Markham, Ontario Monique settled in as secretary/receptionist in a doctor’s office in town. In 1992 she moved to Summerside with her husband Louis where the couple acquired Summerside’s most recognized Dry Cleaning business which they operated, and Monique was to fulfill the tailoring/repair side of it. Monique a cancer survivor, then moved her tailoring business home and worked for several prominent madams in Summerside performing alterations. Monique will be sadly missed.

Resting at the Moase Funeral Home, Summerside. No visiting hours or funeral service by request.  A graveside service will be held at St. Paul’s Cemetery, Summerside, on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at 2:00 pm. Memorial donations can be made directly to the Prince County Hospital Foundation.
